Dear Drowning...

Just a quick note to let you know that despite the lack of recent correspondence, I have not forgotten about you. Being as I am, determined neither to apologize nor excuse, I offer only this as an explanation: I’ve been busy.

If you haven’t heard, I recently relocated my family some 10 miles to the south, and as you can no doubt imagine, such a move has left me even more distracted than normal. Add to the physical realities of transporting over five years of accumulation to the significant emotional strain of adjusting to one’s new environs, routines, and local Chinese takeout menu and well, it has been unusually difficult to locate the necessary motivation for sense-making and creative expression.

Despite these and other events, I have of course been continuing my daily, pseudo-compulsive intake of news, commentary, and public events. If anything, the pause in writing has afforded more time for reading. To wit, I would like to call your attention to the following items that I found particularly noteworthy:

In closing, while I’m loath to make any specific promises or commitments to you, (wanting as I am to continue the illusion that it is I who am the master and you who are the servant) I will allow that with the children now safely ensconced in their new schools and my pencil drawer very nearly in order, it is certainly my intention to get back on the proverbial horse, cut open the proverbial vein, and return to the important work of putting pen to paper — or more accurately, keystrokes to pixels.

I hope you’ve been well and look forward to continuing our dialog. Please write when you can.

All the best…Bob
