Lags: Jet and Otherwise

Map of Japan

Apologies for the ghastly absence of recent postings. Fortunately I have a better rationale than the oft-cited load of work, deadlines, and other pressures of the day: I’ve been in Japan for the past three weeks on a so-called “family vaction”. And while the combination of in-laws, young children, an alien language, a foreign culture, and an unforgiving train schedule might not initially sound appealing, I’m a bit relieved to report that it was a quite memorable adventure that will no doubt serve as entertaining fodder for future blog postings, bar stories, and family gatherings.

Finally, although I should have learned not to make any promises regarding my blogging habits, once I’m finished with the same-sex marriage discussion, expect a string of tales and observations gathered during my recent journeys to strange and foreign lands — Japan as well as Texas.

Certainly, travel is more than the seeing of sights; it is a change that goes on, deep and permanent, in the ideas of living.

Travel is only glamorous in retrospect.
