Iraq :: From Those on the Ground
Appearing in Seen Elsewhere
I don’t know the official definition of “credibility gap” but it’s clear you’re getting close when the people on the ground openly disagree with the official rhetoric of the policy makers. How long are we are we supposed to wait for this Administration to level with us about their actions in Iraq?
- “When you don’t say you got it wrong, it leads to the general belief that you manipulated the intelligence and so you did it for some other purpose. [T]he administration is having such a hard time in saying the intelligence is wrong… [and] it makes it very difficult for relations with allies… The next time you have to go and shout there’s fire in the theatre people are going to doubt it.”
- David Kay
Former Chief Weapons Inspector
- “American soldiers are facing men with a cell phone in one hand, a RPG in the other, and ill-conceived hatred in their heart. This enemy is asymmetric in the most unpredictable way. US forces will face this threat for months in Iraq, if not years.”
- Captian Daniel Morgan
Former commander of Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 101st Airborne Division
