What Are You Afraid Of?

What are you afraid of? It’s an important question.

Are you afraid of dying? Are you afraid of living? Are you afraid of having too much? Are you afraid of having too little?

Do you look at your world and marvel at the progress or do you look at the traffic and bemoan the destruction? Do you think all this technology brings us together or do you think it all drives us apart?

Do you think of your grandchildren and envy the world they’ll inhabit or do you fear they’ll inhabit a world bereft of the things you value?

Do you remember the attacks of September 11th and envision an offensive enemy that wants to destroy America or do you imagine nineteen misguided individuals driven to desperation?

Do you believe, like 81% of Americans, that “we all will be called before God on Judgment Day to answer for our sins”? Or do you believe, like the Dalai Lama that, “…true happiness comes from a sense of brotherhood and sisterhood. [And that] we need to cultivate a universal responsibility for one another and the planet we share.”?

Do you believe peace comes from strength? Or do you believe that peace comes from compassion?

Do you believe we are right or do you fear we are wrong?

What are you afraid of?
