The bottom line is this: the vast majority of modern Westerners are living the lives of kings. Precious few of us want for food, shelter, or clothing and although that may place us on the perilious pinnacle of Maslow’s hierarchy of needs, it also places our experience well outside that of the planet’s 3 billion inhabitants living on less than $2 a day.
