Earlier today Howard Dean, M.D. announced his candidacy for the President of the United States. His announcement, entitled “The Great American Restoration”, is not only a great read but was also a great speech. Of course like all the Democratic candidates, Dean faces an uphill battle against an incumbent who will be spending $426,640 a day — every day — between now and election day. Fortunately, Dean is not swayed by the current president’s campaign of fear, global aggression, and international coercion, calling instead for Americans to stand up for their founding principles of equality, justice, and the rule of law.
By challenging the current assumptions and tone of Washington, the candidacy of Dean and others will hopefully lead to an open, public debate where we can confront issues as an informed and engaged citizenry rather than as frightened children who are being misled with half-truths and publicity stunts.
