A Byrd in The Senate Is Worth More Than a Bush in The White House
Appearing in Politics
First elected to the U.S. Senate in 1958, Robert Byrd (D-West Virginia), continues to be one of the most eloquent and articulate voices in Washington. At times he seems like the only person in Congress with the requisite courage, independence and patriotism to stand up to an Executive Branch who’s concern for the needs of the American citizenry is debatable. In the last few months Senator Byrd has made a number of important speeches from the Senate floor. Of particular note are his speeches about the President’s theatrical indulgences aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln as well as his questioning of the motives behind the Iraq invasion.
