Appearing in Politics

Political stagecraft at its most extreme, somebody at the White House actually thought this was a good image for the President to project. Aside from all the silly arguments about how much it cost and whether it slowed down the ship’s arrival, the important question to ask is, why the White House would think that the militarization of the presidency was a good thing? Castro, Kadafi, Hussein, these are the guys that appear in military garb. Civilized leaders are supposed to wear business suits and the occasional polo shirt. Are we past even caring that a significant portion of the developed world sees us as a rogue nation with a penchant for cowboy diplomacy?
